A village post office has reopened with increased branch hours after a four-week refurbishment. 

Great Massingham Post Office reopened on Monday following extensive building works at the Station Road branch. 

The branch was closed for four weeks while the refurbishments took place in time to be ready for the busy Christmas period.

The village store, which is also undergoing a refit, will reopen on December 6.
  
Postmaster Mark Eldridge wanted to make changes to improve the layout within the store which now features an open-plan counter alongside the retail counter. 

The post office is now open during the same hours as the rest of the store, making it easier for customers to visit at a time that suits them best.

It is now open 82 hours a week, between 7am and 7pm from Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 7pm on Sundays.

The project was supported with a grant from King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Council due to the importance of the service to the local community. 
 
With bank branch closures in the area, Great Massingham Post Office has become the local bank for personal and business banking and provides free cash withdrawals among other essential services.
  
Area change manager, Sally Ingold, said: “We are delighted that refurbishment work at Great Massingham Post Office is now complete.

"The branch is now open daily and for much longer hours than before making it easier for customers to visit.
 
“We worked with the postmaster to provide an interim branch to maintain service during big improvements being made to the post office and shop which meant that the village was not left without vital services.”
