Plans have been lodged for a £260,000 disability access project at a council office.

Cromer Town Council has filed plans to build a side extension to make its office at North Lodge on Overstrand Road more accessible.

The council has proposed installing a platform lift, stairs and an accessible toilet within an area at the west of North Lodge currently used as a service yard.

The venue is also hired out for weddings and events, which the town council hopes will help to eventually balance out the cost of the accessibility works.

The town council is currently spending over £3,000 a year to have to rent out an accessible space for meetings.

Pat West, town councillor and Cromer mayor, had said that the best way forward was to invest in North Lodge, as opposed to selling it.

The money from the sale of the site would have to be earmarked for capital projects only and could not be spent on the general running of the council.

The plans are pending consideration by North Norfolk District Council.
