A flood alert remains in place for parts of the Norfolk Broads as locals are told to "be prepared".

The Environment Agency has warned the flooding of homes and businesses remains likely today and for at least the next 24 hours.

The alert is in place for the areas surrounding the River Bure from Wroxham Bridge, the River Ant from Honing and the River Thurne from Hickling to Breydon Water.

The forecast high tide at Great Yarmouth will stop the river system from draining out to sea, triggering higher-than-normal water levels within the Broads.

Areas most at risk include Potter Heigham, the Wroxham boat yards and Ferry Road in Horning.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: "We are not currently expecting the situation to escalate, or to issue any further warning messages at this time.

"Take care on waterside roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger."

An update will be issued by 10am tomorrow or as the situation changes.
