With the festive season upon us mince pies are firmly back on the menu.
But these inconspicuous sweet-filled pastries are causing a stir after it was revealed a bakery south of the border is charging a whooping £25 for six.
Fortunately, Norwich folk do not have to splurge that amount to indulge in a mince pie this Christmas with the most expensive our reporters could find costing £2.65 for one.
Here our reporters, Emily Rose-Thompson and Donna Louise-Bishop, taste-tested a range of mince pies to suit all budgets to find the tastiest.
They carried out the test blind, not knowing which mince pie was from where or how much each cost.
FIFTH PLACE: M&S - £2.75 FOR SIX (45P EACH)
The cheapest we tested was from M&S, which charge £2.75 for six – coming out at just 45p each. These were also deemed the least appetising of the five our taste-testers tried.
The "very traditional" pie had the looks but was a let down in the taste department being called "not as flavoursome as the others and shop brought".
FOURTH PLACE: LOGANS SANDWICH BAR - £1
Independent café Logans Sandwich Bar in Norwich Lanes charges £1 for one mince pie.
Donna said the pie was "a tiny bit dry but a really nice flavour".
Emily added: "For the price it's really good value."
THIRD PLACE: TWO MAGPIES BAKERY - £2
A mince pie at local bakery chain Two Magpies will set you back £2 and comes in third place on our list.
This pie, from Timber Hill, had "lots of icing sugar" on it according to Emily which helped it "taste like Christmas".
RUNNER-UP: BREAD SOURCE - £2.40
The second most expensive mince pie we could find in the city is being sold at independent bakery Bread Source, which charges £2.40 for one mince pie. The cost was worth it for our tasters who ranked it the second-best in our taste test.
With a crumble topping, the Norwich Market mince pie was a hit with the pair, having "a nice crunch to it" and having a different taste to the others.
WINNER: CAFFE NERO - £2.65
Coming out on top, despite costing the most, this mince pie from the Gentleman's Walk shop made a great first impression, before even being eaten, with the pair agreeing it looked "really pretty".
It also passed the taste test with them both with a "thinner layer of pastry" to accentuate the heaps of mincemeat underneath.
