Plans for six new homes have been turned down after a flurry of objections from villagers.

RTW Construction and Developments applied for outline permission for six new self-build homes on land at Walpole St Peter, between King's Lynn and Wisbech.

But West Norfolk Council has turned down the proposals for the site off Walnut Road, after a planning officer's report warned it was an "unsustainable location".

The report raised concerns over its impact on the countryside, lack of affordable housing, unsuitable access and loss of high-grade agricultural land.

Some 13 objections were received from locals. One said: "The village needs housing for low income families, not further luxury housing."

Another added: "I can understand there is need for housing in the area however, this village with no infrastructure to accommodate another six households is of little benefit until there are more village amenities and better roads at the very least."

Similar proposals to demolish and existing bungalow and build homes on the same site were turned down in January, 2023, because it was outside of the development boundary and would be detrimental to the countryside.

RTW contested the council's grounds for refusal in its latest planning statement which said: "Our client's brief was to design an environmentally conscious self-build development which contribute to housing need within the district."
