Frustrated people in a Norfolk village have expressed outrage over ongoing roadworks causing severe disruption to daily journeys.

City Fibre, a broadband infrastructure company, is carrying out simultaneous works on Mill Lane and Beccles Road in Bradwell, and Stepshort in Belton, sparking widespread grievance.

Great Yarouth Borough councillor Carl Annison said he has been inundated with complaints about delays.

He said: “I’ve never seen anything like it. One woman took 22 minutes to drive through Bradwell. Another took an hour and 20 minutes from Gapton Hall to Belton.

"People are missing doctor's appointments," he added.

Mr Annison acknowledged the benefits of the broadband upgrades - but criticised the timing and organisation of the works.

“These are not emergency works. Why do them all at once? It has completely cut off going through Bradwell. It’s ridiculous."

A CityFibre spokesperson said: “Work is underway in Bradwell and Stepshort to bring next generation, full fibre broadband to the area.

"We appreciate this means some disruption for residents but we work closely with Norfolk County Council to keep disruption to a minimum and the team is working hard to finish as quickly as possible."

It is anticipated the works in Bradwell and Stepshort will be completed on Friday, November 22.
