The demolition of a city centre landmark has fallen behind schedule due to complexities around surrounding buildings.

Work to bring down and clear the former Marsh site in Queens Road, Victoria House, was expected to be finished this year.

However with businesses in neighbouring buildings nearby, such as recruitment agency ARC Group, precautions have had to be put in place to overcome the site's "complex" nature.

A spokesman for Zive Capital, owners of the site, said: "We expect the building to be down by the end of this year or in early January.

"Onsite work is then expected to be completed by February 2025.

"The demolition is a complex process and we are taking the appropriate precautions, especially given the site's proximity to Nedeham House to the west."

The future of the site was recently revealed, with £80m plans proposing 440 flats being built and rented to young professionals.

To the south of the site will be a number of family homes, which will also be rented.

Included in the project would also be creating a space along the ground floor of the flats for independent businesses, as well as an investment into improving St Stephens underpass and a public garden in Queens Road.

The site has been empty since the start of 2022 when Marsh announced it was moving staff to its new offices at Broadland Business Park.

Demolition work was initially scheduled to begin by the end of September last year but it was revealed in October that no date had been set - before work finally started in August this year.

A public consultation is being held around the proposed plans, which finishes on November 29.
