A cherished tradition that brings Santa's sleigh to life every winter is celebrating an incredible milestone.

This year marks 60 years since Great Yarmouth Lions Club first brought the Father Christmas float to town - a festive tradition that has delighted families across generations.

Every December, the sight of Santa and his sleigh rolling through town, lighting up the streets of Great Yarmouth and surrounding areas, has united children and adults with joy and nostalgia.

Many recall the thrill of first spotting the sleigh when years later they introduce the event to their own children - and even grandchildren.

This year, the Lions Club is inviting the community to celebrate the sleigh’s diamond anniversary by sharing old photos, cherished stories and memories of its festive visits.

These reflections will form a digital scrapbook, preserving the sleigh’s legacy and the joy it brings.

Jaime Speed, a spokesperson for Great Yarmouth Lions Club, said: “We have people who tell us how they remember the sleigh from when they were small, and now they bring their own families to see it.

“It’s something that brings us all together, year after year. Knowing we’re creating memories for the next generation is very special.”

If you have an old photo tucked away, a cherished memory of Santa’s arrival or even a story of how this tradition has carried through your family, please consider sharing it with the Great Yarmouth Lions Club.

Whether it’s the memory of waving excitedly as a child, snapping a picture of Santa on his sleigh, or watching children’s faces light up as he arrives, these stories form the tapestry of the sleigh’s history.

To share your memories, visit the Lions Club’s Facebook page where you can post photos, leave comments, and read about other community members’ experiences.
