The owners of a chippy that turns 100 next year may have even more reason to celebrate.

French's Fish Shop in Wells was started by William Thomas French in 1921 and it moved to its current Quayside location in 1925.

It has stood the test of time and is still run by the same family - four generations down the line.

Dad and daughter duo Marcus and Alanna French are now at the helm of the takeaway and restaurant.

It has just been shortlisted in the top 10 in the 'Field to Frier' category at The National Fish and Chip Awards 2025.

The awards are organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) and its president, Andrew Crook, said: "There is nothing our most successful entrants this year don’t know about soil environment, potato varieties, seasonal differences, cooking methods, oil selection, the list goes on."

French's Fish Shop was previously announced in the top 20 shortlist for 'Takeaway of the Year' at the 2025 awards.

In 2024, it won the Quality Accreditation Champion category.

The ceremony will take place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London on February 26 2025.
