Homebuyers looking for a bargain in Norfolk may want to turn their attention towards the coast.
According to data recently published by Zoopla, people in a dual-salary household typically pay nearly four times their income to buy a property.
After analysing data on house value-to-earnings ratios based on an average salary for the local area, Great Yarmouth was revealed as the most affordable town in Norfolk to buy a home in.
1. Great Yarmouth
In Great Yarmouth, the average property has a value of £212,300, some 21pc below the UK average of £267,500.
While it has some of the most deprived areas in the county, Yarmouth is also a town on the up.
Its tourism industry is worth more than half a billion pounds and since 2019 it has benefited from £300m of investment.
2. Thetford
Thetford came in second place with an average property value of £241,900.
The historic market town is conveniently located near the Cambridgeshire and Suffolk borders and has good road and rail connections to both Cambridge and Norwich.
The nearby Thetford Forest offers a big bonus for lovers of the outdoors.
3. King's Lynn
The average property price is currently £273,805 in King's Lynn.
Situated along the banks of the River Ouse, King’s Lynn was once home to the biggest port in the country.
Its vibrant history is reflected in the stunning architecture that fills its historic centre such as the Custom House and St George's Guildhall.
4. Downham Market
Downham Market, the average property price is £275,350.
InWith direct trains taking just 39 minutes, the west Norfolk market town is popular with Cambridge commuters.
It is known as the 'Gingerbread Town' due to the colour of its buildings which are predominantly made with local carrstone.
5. Wymondham
The average property price for a home in Wymondham is £306,255.
The south Norfolk market town is known for its beautiful Benedictine abbey and for being the spot where Robert Kett gathered thousands of peasants to revolt against the King.
Many of its historic buildings date back to the 15th century and The Green Dragon is believed to be one of the oldest pubs in the country.
