A dilapidated building that has been causing a stir in a seaside resort is set to go under the hammer. 

The building at 4 Bond Street in Cromer is to go up for auction after the site received planning permission for two blocks of flats to be built there. 

The planning bid comprises nine flats, including a penthouse flat.

The agent describes the lot as a: "Rare opportunity to demolish and reconstruct this commercial building which was once the base for St John's Ambulance training centre.

"An ideal redevelopment and investment opportunity in a very popular holiday destination."

Eyebrows were raised at the Royal Mail over the planning permission to demolish the building to make way for nine new flats directly opposite its delivery office. 

The plans were met with objections from Royal Mail, which had concerns about the noise from its office causing issues for new residents and the potential for the development site itself to "restrict or ultimately prevent Royal Mail operations".

It had said: "The introduction of residential development in such proximity to the DO is of significant concern to Royal Mail as this use potentially gives rise to future amenity issues and challenges which could restrict or ultimately prevent Royal Mail operations at that site."

However, a nearby resident pointed out how both the need for housing and the noise already inflicted upon other people living in the area may outweigh the organisation's concerns.

They had commented: "Rather than standing in the way of welcome and badly-needed investment in housing and tourism, perhaps Royal Mail could be persuaded to follow the logic of their objection - and admission of creating noise inappropriate for a residential area."

The lot will go on sale by livestream auction on December 11 with Auction House East Anglia.
