A petition has been launched to save Dereham Post Office from closing after it was announced the organisation is looking to make cost cuts.
Earlier this week, the Post Office announced a five-year plan to deliver "a new deal" for its postmasters.
It said it is "considering the future" of its directly managed branches as it moves to become a fully franchised network.
George Freeman, MP for Mid Norfolk, has started a petition to save Dereham's Post Office, which is under threat of closure as it is the only directly managed branch in the NR postcode.
Mr Freeman called the branch "a vital hub for the local community".
He said: "As Dereham as a town grows in population with more new housing planned, and with a retired elderly population, this is an outrageous proposal by the Post Office, which makes no sense.
"The importance of the service our local branches provide in a rural area like ours cannot be overstated."
