A man accused of a campaign of violent abuse against a woman has been told he will remain in prison until his next court hearing. 

Liudautauras Vaičiukynas, 38, faces a string of charges including that he subjected the Hopton woman to extreme controlling and coercive behaviour over six months.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told it was said the lorry driver insisted on accompanying the woman at all times and controlled her movements. 

He also faces accusations that he intentionally strangulated the woman, threatened her with a knife and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Colette Harper, prosecuting, said the pair had been in a relationship for 12 months. 

She said it was alleged he had punched her, pulled her around by the hair and put a knife to her throat saying: “If I can’t have you, no-one can”. 

Vaičiukynas, who spoke through a Lithuanian interpreter and gave an address of Majestic Hotel in Great Yarmouth, did not enter pleas and was remanded in custody until a hearing at Norwich Crown Court on December 12.
