Plans have been thrown out for a barn conversion complete with bar in a leafy Norfolk village.

The developers - named in council papers as Mr and Mrs Andrews - applied to convert the building overlooking The Green at East Rudham, near Fakenham, into "extended residential accommodation".

But James and Joanna Howard, who live in a 19th-century listed property next door and share a party wall with the barn, said their amenity would be disturbed if the plans were given the go-ahead.

"This appears as if it is to be used for social events as it contains a cellar, a bar and an open entertainment space," they said in their objection.

"The Green is a harmonious residential community that respects the privacy and wellbeing of all its residents."

They added the potential for the property to be rented out in the future was "of major concern".

A planning statement said the works proposed would cause "less than substantial" harm to the Howards' property.

West Norfolk Council's planning portal says the application has been refused.
