It could be a case of 'he who dares, wins' for a young Norfolk actor hoping to win a prestigious theatre award.

Tom Major, from Gorleston, is eligible for nomination in the Best Professional Debut Category at the upcoming 25th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards thanks to his performance as Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses the Musical.

The 22-year-old bagged the role earlier this year and has been touring the UK and Ireland since September, earning rave reviews along the way.

Mr Major began performing with the Lowestoft Players and then trained at Gorleston's D16 Performing Arts College and ArtsEd in London.

Critics have been praising his ability to capture Rodney’s charm.

A writer at Must See Theatre said: “Major in particular is a highlight of the show, making the role of Rodney his own while still honouring Lyndhurst’s unique portrayal.”

Fans in Norfolk can catch the show at the Ipswich Regent Theatre from January 6 to 11 next year, and the Norwich Theatre Royal from 13th to 18th January 13 to 18.

Last year's winner of the category went on to star in Broadway.
