A petition has been lodged against plans to convert a family home into an eight-bed house of multiple occupancy (HMO) for students as neighbours fear it could push families out of the area.

Almost 30 people living near the proposed conversion, in Wycliffe Road, have signed off on objections around the plans for the existing two-storey property.

The petition, signed by 28 people living in the area, was submitted on the application to object to the plans claiming it is an over-intensive development of the site.

In the objection it says: "The plans to convert the home, to accommodate eight people, is significantly more than the original designs allowed for.

"This will lead to issues with overcrowding of the property and leaves very little communal space.

"We're also very concerned that the size of a HMO such as this will lead to more late-night noise, loud parties, takeaway deliveries at all times of day and night and rubbish left in the street.

"This could ultimately drive out families from the local area.

"Experience has taught us that the larger the number of occupants, the more noise
disturbance and anti-social behaviour there is.

"With plans looking like it will be converted for the purpose of student letting many keep
unsociable hours.

"They don't have full-time jobs to go to, young children or elderly family members to care for and don't understand the impact that late-night disturbances cause.

"These kind of properties bring down the value of the non-rental properties and make the area an unpleasant place to live in, driving local people out."

Plans were initially submitted by Kishan Dattani in early October and an internal recommendation date by the case officer has been set for December 2.

The plan also proposes the demolition of the existing sheds in the back garden and the creation of eight off-street parking spaces.
