A homeowner has appealed a decision that prevents him from installing safety balustrades around his balcony.

Mark Jordan, who lives in Beetley near Dereham, applied to install balustrades around a balcony to the side of his property on Church Road.

He hoped the clear glass system would improve safety around the property's flat roof, which is used as a balcony.

However, Breckland Council refused his application, saying the plans would intrude on the privacy of his neighbours.

The council also denied permission for a balcony, saying the property did not have prior permission to be using it as such and formal consent would allow the occupants to "linger on it and afford them a lasting and immediate vantage point over adjoining garden areas".

He said: " Therefore it will only be slightly less overlooked with the installation of balustrade."
