An alleged Norfolk Broads boat thief has appeared in court accused of stealing a £32,000 cruiser that was later found abandoned 10 miles away.

The Lily of Wayford was stolen on December 28, 2022, from its mooring at Loddon Marina on the River Chet.

It was discovered after being reported to police 10 days later, and 10 miles away near Somerleyton on the River Waveney.

After being found the boat was towed to a secure location for forensics examination while police appealed for information and CCTV.

The court was told it was denied that Palmer was the person who witnesses had described towing the boat away.

A trial will take place on June 19 next year.

Following the theft and a spate of boat break-ins of vessels in Loddon owners were warned to "remain vigilant" and to protect their property.
