This photograph shows the man stabbed to death in a Norwich flat seated alongside the man charged with his murder.

On the left in the red jumper is Abdulkadar Chadli, enjoying an evening drinking with his neighbour, Elvis Vickers, on the right.

The body of Mr Chadli, known as Abdul or Abs, was found last Friday in Vickers' flat on Mousehold Street. A post-mortem examination found he had died of a single stab wound to the chest.

Vickers, 46, was arrested at the scene and this week appeared in court charged with his neighbour's murder.

The photo was taken in 2020 and shows how the pair had known each other for a long time.

Mr Chadli, a father of two, worked in the offshore industry and spent long periods away from his home.

Friends say the 48-year-old had returned to Norwich from Aberdeen on the morning of his death.

Vickers' brother is understood to have died the same day and friends say Mr Chadli spent some of the day comforting his neighbour.

Grant Hughes, who lives nearby, described himself as Mr Chadli's best friend and said he was devastated by his loss.

He is a drummer in a sca band called 'Skaface U.K' who were due to perform at the Reindeer pub in Dereham Road last night.

They planned to dedicate their performance to Mr Chadli.

"Abdul was the loveliest, kindest and caring of men. It breaks my heart," Mr Hughes said.

"He was a lover of music. He and I used to always listen to music, and we both loved listening to Neil Diamond.

"Abs, as I call him, was so at peace with the world, super relaxed and gentle.

"The show on Friday was a special opportunity to pay tribute to him and celebrate what a great person he was."

A trial is set to take place in March next year at Norwich Crown Court. Vickers has been remanded to HMP Norwich until then.

He claims to have called to the property to pay £20 to Vickers, which he handed to him on the doorstep.

He said he was walking away from the flat at the very moment police arrived.
