A popular pub on the banks of the river has hit the market as owners announce that they will be handing over the reins after 20 years.

Gary and Debra Wilson, owners of The Bush Public House in Costessey, will soon be retiring from running the beloved boozer.

Mr Wilson said: "We have been here for 20 years and are now over retirement age.

"We are looking forward to spending more time with our children and grandchildren after a couple of amazing decades.

"It has been a wonderful journey."

Mr Wilson said: "It is the people who make the pub.

"They have been so generous and a core support in everything we have done.

"It is not us who have raised so much money, but the people in the pub.

Mr Wilson estimates that over the last two decades, fundraising events at the pub have seen around £70,000 donated to local charities including Mundesley Lifeboat, Priscilla Bacon, EACH and the nearby Barley Court Nursing Home.

Previous owners of the pub, Bob and Belinda Merriedale, began donating to the British Heart Foundation following the birth of their son who had a heart defect.

The Wilsons will continue to run The Bush until someone is ready to take over the site.

Mr Wilson added: "The pub has only just hit the market.

"We aren't looking to rush the sale.

"We hope that whoever takes over will continue that legacy."
