A supermarket chain has been given the go-ahead to almost double the size of the shop on its filling station forecourt.

Morrisons has been given planning permission to extend the retail area at its King's Lynn superstore's garage from 68 to 123 sqm.

Operator the Motor Fuel Group says in a covering letter the bigger kiosk will provide "an improved offer to visiting motorists".

It adds any "small uplift in turnover" the extension might bring will not impact on nearby town centre shops.

The filling station and the main store, on Coburg Street near the railway station, opened in August, 2002.

The extension will share the railway-themed architecture of the filling station and car wash, in a nod to the former use of the site.

The area was originally taken up by sidings, goods sheds and cattle pens which had fallen into disuse with the post war decline of the railways.
