The housing association in charge of dealing with a mouldy flat has apologised and is arranging new fittings to try and sort the issue.

Lauren Emery has been pleading with Clarion Housing Association since March last year due to mould spreading throughout her flat, blaming a lack of insulation in the under-path below.

Ms Emery says her three-year-old son, Thomas, has been unable to sleep in his own room for a year because it is so mouldy. 

Clarion has now said sorry for what the pair have been experiencing. However it also claims that the insulation in the flat, on Southalls Way, was "in line with building regulations".

A spokesman for Clarion said: "We take all reports of damp and mould seriously and are sorry that Ms Emery has been experiencing these issues in her home.

"We are committed to making things better for her. 
 
"After visiting the property and testing the insulation in the affected area, it was found to be in-line with building regulations and we didn't identify any necessary repairs.  
 
"Our contractor has installed a larger radiator in the room to help heat the room adequately and we are also in the process of arranging for a new carpet and underlay to be fitted.

"Following this we will be installing a device that will measure the conditions in the flat on an ongoing basis, to identify any possible underlying issue."

The 26-year-old said: "The mould has caused so many issues because it's everywhere and on all my son's things like his bed, clothes, teddies and cushions.

"I've asked for us to be moved until the insulation is fixed.

"Simply cleaning the mould won't stop it from coming back, the insulation needs to be sorted."
