A city community centre saved from closure hosted a significant event showcasing its progress.
Phoenix Community Centre, in Mile Cross Road, was at the edge of shutting down just eight months ago.
Now it has been able to open its doors to showcase its projects to the public thanks to a financial boost from gas distribution network, Cadent.
It stepped in to partner with the charity by providing £95,000 of funding for the next two years as part of its Centre for Warmth programme.
The centre, which is a hub for the Mile Cross Phoenix Projects, offers a wide range of services for the community.
These include education, recreational activities, a social supermarket, a weekly food bank, a community café, and a warm bank.
With the extra funding the centre can now offer slow cooking courses, Citizens Advice support and energy efficiency advice.
The money will also help with running costs and provide resources for upskilling volunteers and staff.
Centre manager Claire Kidman said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we can open our doors and show the whole community what we are able to provide, thanks to the support of local businesses and our partnership with Cadent.
“This is a much-needed boost to help our community who will benefit from extra support and advice during the winter months and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis."
It will provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about the free services offered by the centre.
Phil Burrows, head of customer vulnerability social programmes at Cadent, said: “We are so pleased that we have been able to support the Phoenix Community Centre and ensure it can continue the fantastic work the team does across the community."
The centre's launch event was free to attend and included various activities and refreshments.
