A handful of necklaces worth up to £6,000 have been stolen from a luxury jewellery shop in north Norfolk.

The heist happened at 10.15am on Tuesday in Orion Jewellers, Cromer, when a man entered the store and asked to trade in some gold for a selection of necklaces.

But when the owner of the store placed the jewellery - estimated to be worth between £4,000 and £6,000 - on a scale to weigh them the thief quickly snatched the goods and ran.

The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap, an Adidas puffer jacket and ripped jeans.

"It's the first theft of this nature we've had. I just hope he's caught."

The specialist luxury jewellery shop opened in 2024 and sells handcrafted jewellery as well as offering repair and restoration services on clocks and watches.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Constabulary said: "We were called at 10.20am today to a business premises on Church Street, Cromer, following reports that items of gold jewellery had been stolen.

"An investigation is now under way."
