A high-end menswear store will close this Christmas after serving the city for nearly four decades.

Philip Browne has sold big-name clothing brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Moncier and Levi's to Norwich gents since 1986.

It is currently located on the corner of Guildhall Hill, next to the old library building, where it moved to in 2011. Before that, it occupied a shop nearby which is now Imelda's.

The store is running a closing down sale of up to 70pc off ahead of a mid-December closure date.

Shop staff said the future of the business is uncertain. However, the decision to close comes soon after its parent company, the Frasers Group, opened rival store Flannels in Chantry Place stocking very similar items.

Philip Browne was acquired by the group in March last year after its previous owner, JD Sports, chose to offload various smaller businesses.

Frasers Group has been contacted for comment.
