The finalists for the EDP Business Awards 2024 have been announced, with businesses across the region receiving recognition for their hard work.
We find out about the finalists of the Environmental & Sustainability Award, which is sponsored by Norse Group.
Flagship Group
Based in Norwich, Flagship Group builds, lets, improves and maintains homes across East Anglia with a goal of trying to solve the housing crisis.
It provides 32,000 homes for social rent to over 76,000 customers across the region. Since 2020, it has invested £400m in building new affordable and social homes, £150m in improving existing homes, and over £160m in maintaining them.
The judges saw that Flagship Group has “started to embed environmental, social and governance (ESG) within the organisation”, and that the group has “a clear plan, and this will take them forward as they work toward achieving net zero”.
Judges also saw “exciting opportunities ahead” for Flagship Group.
SaxonAir
SaxonAir in Norwich provides bespoke aviation services in the UK and beyond.
Since 2007, it has become a key player in the private and business aviation sector, renowned for its commitment to excellence, safety and sustainability.
Since 2019, SaxonAir has implemented several initiatives in its aim to reach net zero, including offsetting emissions from flying activities, installing EV chargers, and more planned for 2025 and beyond.
The judges said that SaxonAir stood out for “showcasing its sustainability journey to date with great innovation” and added that it is “clearly leading the way in the aviation industry”.
Shred Station
Shred Station, based outside Norwich, is a national shredding and recycling service provider with depots across the country.
Its mission is to provide a secure, high-quality and environmentally conscious service. As a lifetime carbon neutral certified company, committed to reaching net zero by 2030, it reduces emissions across all areas of the business, and has set new goals to reach more ambitious sustainability targets.
Judges liked Shred Station’s “clear and focused strategy” towards reaching its environmental and sustainability goals, with a vision “clearly communicated and understood across the business”.
The judges added: “The company had gone above and beyond what was already a very high standard for these awards and stood out for this reason.”
Triple Bottom Line Accounting
Triple Bottom Line Accounting (TBLA) in Norwich operates from one of Europe’s greenest buildings at the University of East Anglia, and is a pioneering accountancy practice that integrates environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into its services.
It offers traditional accounting services alongside sustainability-focused offerings, including carbon accounting, net zero advisory, and ESG strategy consultations.
TBLA sets a new standard for incorporating sustainability into everyday practices, and a key initiative is staff education in ESG matters.
The firm is passionate about supporting companies seeking to impact the world positively. It has a clear vision on “how accountancy can support sustainability”, said the judges.
They also said that the firm showcased “exemplary buy-in across the business”.
