A Norfolk village is set to expand with plans unveiled for a major new housing estate.

The proposals would see 37 homes built on a parcel of land in West Runton, just south of the A149 coast road.

An application to go ahead with the new estate - called the Kraft - has been lodged with North Norfolk District Council by  Creeting & Coast Developments Limited.

It proposes a mix of two-storey detached, semi-detached, terraced houses and bungalows, ranging from one to five bedrooms in size.

Under the plans, 13 homes would be designated affordable.

A planning document states: "The layout, planting and design of the properties and choice of materials have been carefully considered to be in keeping with the local surroundings."

"Appropriate searches and consultations have been undertaken to ensure access to public services and utilities, including confirmation by Anglian Water of the capacity of clean and waste water infrastructure to accommodate the new residential units.

"The site is within walking distance of the village centre, providing easy access to a host of local services including a pub, post office, café, restaurant and a variety of shops."

The small village - home to around 1,600 people - is famous for its prehistoric discoveries, and its beaches - named the best in North Norfolk for 2024 - attract fossil hunters and amateur palaeontologists all year round.

The most complete skeleton of a Steppe mammoth was found at West Runton, as well as a more recent discovery of what are thought to be the bones of a straight tusked elephant.
