A suspected drunk driver has claimed he was not in charge of a car that got stuck in sand at a popular Norfolk beach.
Roger Jackson, 62, was arrested at Waxham on September 17 after a breath test showed he was more than double the drink drive limit.
Norwich Magistrates’ Court heard a member of the public had reported that a car had become stuck and the driver was “extremely drunk” and “unable to speak”.
Prosecutor Jessica Neequaye said when police arrived they had found a Renault vehicle had been driven down a track towards the beach and Jackson had been reported sitting inside attempting to move it.

Jackson, of Palmers Road in Peterborough, pleaded not guilty to being in control of a vehicle while unfit through drink after a breath test reading of 99mg - the legal limit is 35.
He will stand trial at Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court on August 8 next year.
David Foulkes, defending, said he had not been in charge of the vehicle as, because it was stuck, it could not be driven.
The isolated beach at Waxham, near Sea Palling, is a popular spot for visitors.
