A city pub is opening its doors to those in need of a warm space this winter.

The Garden House on Pembroke Road has announced its annual Warm Spaces campaign.

From 11am every day, the pub will be welcoming those who are less fortunate by providing central heating, free food and hot drinks.

Pub operator, Jonathon Childs, said: “The Warm Spaces cause is very close to my heart as I see how people struggle during the tough winter months.

“With bills skyrocketing, I want our pub to be able to support people in the community in any way we can.

“Thanks to the generosity of The Cathedral School - and donations from locals, alongside our own staff - we have been able to donate large amounts of food and teas and coffees to people who are struggling.

“It makes a huge difference to people’s lives.”

Last year, the pub saw a rise in visitors and is now expecting to surpass those numbers.

Mr Childs added that they are running low on hot water bottles and would appreciate any donations so that when visitors leave the pub, they have something to hold on to that will help keep them warm.

The pub is known for consistently supporting charities in the area with regular food donations to The Salvation Army and hosting community events to raise funds for a variety of local causes.

It is one of 600 pubs nationwide raising money for local community causes as part of Craft Union’s goal to raise £1 million, and they are already over halfway to the target.
