A large former retail store that has been closed for more than two years is set for a new lease of life after amended plans were given the green light.

New port and port-related use is set to transform the former Quality Discounts (QD) site in Lowestoft.

Port owners ABP lodged change of use and non illuminated advertisement applications for the former retail chain store at Unit A on Commercial Road in Lowestoft in November last year.

But after concerns over access into the site was raised, revised plans were lodged with East Suffolk Council in July.

Agents Adams Hendry Consulting Limited - on behalf of applicants Associated British Ports - had submitted two schemes to East Suffolk Council for the former retail chain store that closed in July 2022.

In April last year the Port of Lowestoft owner ABP said it had completed the purchase of the 1.5 acre site.

After the Highways Authority lodged a holding objection and Lowestoft Town Council agreed to recommend refusal of the application, it led to the agents submitting amendments that satisfied both consultees as they were subsequently permitted under delegated powers last week.
