Dr. Clare Lidbetter and Kate Bradley, heads of sixth form at Wisbech Grammar School, share insights on the experiences offered to pupils.
At Wisbech Grammar School (WGS) sixth form, academic achievement and personal growth converge.
Underpinned by an ethos of nurturing potential and fostering curiosity, our sixth form offers an environment where pupils are supported to explore and refine their passions and strengths.
With a collaborative spirit and commitment to academic excellence, we create the conditions for each pupil to pursue success on their terms.
Our curriculum is comprehensive, providing a range of A-Level options that pupils can tailor to their ambitions, alongside enrichment opportunities such as the extended project qualification (EPQ) and online courses.
Pupils also have the option to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award, reflecting our emphasis on character development and resilience – qualities essential for the demands of today’s world.
To support their ambitions, sixth form pupils are encouraged to take active roles across the school, becoming leaders in their community as prefects, team captains or mentors for younger pupils. These roles foster a sense of responsibility and build confidence, with the support of both academic and pastoral staff.
Our dedicated pastoral team works alongside pupils, ensuring they feel welcomed and empowered to take ownership of their learning.
Our Sixth Form Centre embodies our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive space. It features classrooms, two Harkness rooms designed to facilitate engaging discussions and a careers area with access to resources. The collaborative and quiet café-style common room and designated study spaces offer pupils areas to connect, focus and grow.
This inspiring environment gives pupils the freedom to lead, collaborate and evolve into resilient, confident individuals.
As part of a vibrant community, sixth form pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves, fulfil their potential and prepare for life beyond school – whether that means university, apprenticeships or other career pathways.
At Wisbech Grammar School, sixth form is more than an academic journey; it’s a time to discover who you are, pursue excellence and embrace the opportunities ahead.
Here’s what some of our new sixth form pupils have to say:
“When I joined WGS sixth form, everyone really made an effort to get to know me. This made me feel welcomed straight away. I’ve grown into a happier, more confident version of myself.”
Another pupil said: “The smaller class sizes and supportive teachers at WGS have really helped me feel more comfortable participating in lessons and asking questions.”
