A £50m project to revamp a roundabout in Great Yarmouth has been scrapped.

Chancellor Rachel Reeve announced in the Budget that several road projects worth a combined £1.3bn have been axed – including plans to upgrade the A47 Vauxhall roundabout in Great Yarmouth, worth £50m.

Plans were originally put forward in 2017 before being put on ice when the Herring Bridge was given the go-ahead.

It had been paused since the completion of the bridge, which has changed the way traffic access the town and port, making the Vauxhall roundabout less of a pinchpoint.

The roundabout would have been compatible with a dualled Acle Straight – a nine-mile stretch of the A47.

The chancellor revealed the Budget on Wednesday, October 30, announcing the government will raise taxes by £40bn to invest in public services.

Other road projects axed in the Budget include: the A5036 Princess Way, Port of Liverpool access road (£335m); A358 Taunton to Southfields (£500m); M27 J8 Southampton (£50m); and the A1 Morpeth to Ellingham dualling (£390m).
