Bluestream wins new contracts after upgrading ICCP-SAM tool

Bluestream Offshore B.V., an OEG Renewables company, has recently upgraded its innovative Impressed Current Cathodic Protection – Subsea Assembly Method (ICCP-SAM) tool, which has led to the company being awarded two new contracts.

Developed in collaboration with CORROSION, a market leader in the protection of offshore wind turbine foundations against deterioration, the tool is designed to remotely install ICCP anodes on monopile foundations of all sizes anywhere on the foundation.

The latest upgrades to the ICCP-SAM optimise both the installation process and the performance of the anode system, improving the reliability of the tool in challenging offshore subsea conditions.

The updated design eliminates the need for bolting directly onto the foundation, ensuring greater flexibility and durability, while allowing the bolts to stretch and withstand higher pressures.

Enhancements have also been made to the size of the system, resulting in a more compact design that will allow for longer anodes that can cover a larger surface area of the monopile. This will improve the efficiency of cathodic protection over a broader region.

Rutger Lieverse, commercial manager at Bluestream, said: “By upgrading our ICCP-SAM tool, we’re not just improving technology – we’re ensuring the future resilience of offshore wind infrastructure, standing stronger against corrosion and the harshest ocean conditions.”

Bluestream also has several research and development projects underway, including solutions for mobilising inspection probes, performing inspections on subsea locations and sampling marine growth on offshore wind turbine foundations.

Hughes Subsea extends contract for Wind Evolution vessel

Hughes Subsea, an OEG Renewables company, has extended the charter contract with CBED for its Wind Evolution vessel, following the success of its work scope on Dogger Bank Wind Farm.

The contract has been extended by one year after an initial six-month period, with Wind Evolution now on charter with Hughes Subsea until January 2026.

Earlier this year, CBED announced the first project with Hughes Subsea for the newly acquired Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) Wind Evolution.

Since then, the vessel has been assigned to the offshore wind farm Dogger Bank in Teesside, where it will continue to serve as a walk-to-work CSOV.

Hughes Subsea signed a contract with Dogger Bank Wind Farm in late 2022 to provide vessel, crew and equipment to complete the internal anode installation campaign across the first phase of the wind farm.

Located between 130km and 190km from the north-east coast of England, the three-phase project will comprise 277 Haliade-X 13MW and 14MW turbines, giving a total capacity of 3.6 GW. The project is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%) and Eni Plenitude (20%).

Hughes Subsea will install the internal cathodic protection systems across 95 turbines being installed at Dogger Bank A.

Mike Bailey, managing director at Hughes SubseaMike Bailey, managing director at Hughes Subsea (Image: OEG Renewables) Mike Bailey, managing director at Hughes Subsea, said: “Hughes Subsea is pleased to continue utilisation of Wind Evolution with CBED. The vessel and crew have performed exceptionally well since its inception in April 2024.

“The vessel provides a safe and efficient platform for our dedicated technicians. The co-operation between Hughes Subsea and CBED serves to enhance our reputation as a trusted supplier to the energy industry. We look forward to a further safe and successful year throughout 2025 and beyond.”

Daniel Alon, general manager at CBED, said: “From the beginning, we have had a very good relationship with Hughes Subsea, and we are very pleased that they have decided to extend the contract.

“They are extremely professional and have a unique understanding for planning and operating Wind Evolution to utilise the CSOV in the best way possible and keep efficiency high on this project.

“Everyone in CBED looks forward to our continued co-operation with Hughes Subsea – not least our Wind Evolution crew, who are also very satisfied with the daily co-operation with Hughes Subsea onboard.”
