New plans have been submitted for a bungalow to be built "in close proximity to explosives".

West Norfolk Council previously turned down proposals to build on the site at Emneth, near Wisbech, close to a firework store.

A planning statement accompanying the latest bid for outline permission says: "This site was subject to a previous refusal due to the close proximity to the storage of explosives."

But adds that another new build has been given the go-ahead near the site on Elmside with "no negative comments regarding the fireworks business".

And while a fire officer said the bungalow which was turned down would be 80m away from containers where fireworks are stored, the distance was more than 100m.

The statement says when Whitelightning Pyrotechnics' application for the  firework containers was approved in 2009, a planning officer's report said they would have "no detrimental effect" on nearby properties.

A decision on the latest bungalow application is expected in the New Year.
