A village pub has dropped its bid to extend its opening hours after complaints from neighbours about shouting and swearing.

However, despite the set back The Buck Inn at Tilney St Lawrence, near King's Lynn, is still hoping to get the go-ahead to play music in its beer garden.

The pub had applied to extend the sale of alcohol from 10am-1am to 10am-2am on Fridays to Saturdays, and from 10am-midnight to 10am-1am on other nights of the week.

But papers for West Norfolk Council's licensing committee say "an agreed change" has been made to keep the hours as they are after discussions with officials.

Three people living near the pub, on Church Road, objected to the application.

One described "shouting, swearing, loud noise levels, TV in garden is too loud, children screaming and shouting until late", adding noise from the premises disturbs their sleep.

Another complained of "disturbance, excessive noise and disruption", along with "patrons urinating in the car park".

The third said they had been disturbed by "very high" noise levels from the pub and from patrons as they leave the premises.

In its submission, The Buck said all customers were asked to leave quietly and a "clearly noticeable sign" asks them to "have regard to our neighbours".

It said CCTV was in operation inside and outside of the premises, with footage being stored for 14 days.

The pub has also has applied to play live and recorded music in its beer garden on Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm-8pm and music indoors from Sundays to Thursdays from 8pm-11pm.

It is currently licensed to play music indoors from 8pm-1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Councillors meet on Tuesday, November 5 to discuss the changes.
