A popular city pub is set to reopen today after being closed for a short period when the former owner was convicted of rape.

The Artichoke in Magdalen Road has been brought back to life under the ownership of Huddersfield-based lawyer Lisa Davis.

From 5pm on Wednesday, patrons will be able to return to the popular boozer and will recognise several of the staff team who have stayed on.

Speaking to this paper earlier this month, Lisa said: "It's been well known for having a capable and friendly staff team who have helped it to become a successful business.

"I've met them to discuss how I can help them achieve their ambition to make the Artichoke a vibrant part of the city's pub scene.

"I'm also recruiting some of the most successful, and experienced, bar and pub operators in the area to support my aim to make this simply the best pub in Norwich."

The pub temporarily closed after former owner Kevin Tweedy was convicted of rape and found guilty of sexual assault during a four-day trial at King's Lynn Crown Court.
