Students joined together at a west Norfolk high school in support of a national anti-racism initiative.

Smithdon High School in Hunstanton participated in Show Racism the Red Card earlier this month.

The event saw all year groups wearing red to highlight the importance of fighting racism in society.

Dan Ward, assistant headteacher at Smithdon, said: “All students were invited to be involved from each year group by wearing red to raise awareness of the importance to stand against racism in society.

“Students were asked to wear their red PE t-shirts for the day in support of the charity.”

Ahead of the event, Mr Ward led a school assembly and on the day pupils participated in activities related to combating racism.

The initiative, which was launched in 1996, has become an annual fixture in the school calendar.

Mr Ward added: “Celebrating diversity and equality is a key part of our culture at Smithdon High School.

“Raising awareness of the importance of banishing racism in society fits right in with the school’s equality pledge, along with one of our school’s values – being kind.”
