An inquest has opened into the death of a man in his thirties whose body was found in the river Wensum earlier this year.

Luke Featherstone, a shop manager who lived in Mile Cross, died on April 9 this year at the age of 33.

An inquest into his death opened at Norfolk Coroner's Court on Wednesday October 23, more than six months after the incident.

During a short hearing, area coroner Samantha Goward confirmed that Mr Featherstone's body had been recovered from the river near St Martin's Close in Norwich.

She said: "Mr Featherstone had been reported as missing and was discovered unresponsive in the river.

"There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."

She confirmed that Mr Featherstone had been born in Norwich and was most recently employed as a shop manager.

The medical cause of his death was drowning.

Police confirmed at the time that his body was discovered at around 10.20am on April 9 in a stretch of the river near the back of Go Outdoors, off Marriott's Way.

They said he had last been seen in the Norwich area the night before.

Mrs Goward adjourned the case until February 20, 2025.
