Plans for seven new "good-sized" village homes have been turned down.

Fern Homes applied to build a mix of four and three-bedroom properties in Guyhirn, near Wisbech.

But Wisbech St Mary Parish Council opposed the plans, saying they would lead to overdevelopment of the site, off High Road.

Fenland Council has now turned them down.

Its decision notice said: "The proposed development of seven dwellings at the site would result in overdevelopment resulting in poor outlook, lack of openness, and potential noise and disturbance given the lack of separation between dwellings and close proximity of dwellings to vehicular areas."

It adds that proposals to set some of the properties back from the road  would lead to "backland" development, which is against the council's policies.

A planning officer's report said nine letters of support were received, although eight did not provide reasons.
