City folk have won their latest battle against pizza chains wanting to extend their opening times.

Neighbours campaigning to stop Domino’s on Colman Road from staying open to 4am are celebrating after the takeaway has its application rejected.

Norwich City Council has decided that the takeaway giant's plans to extend its hours from 11pm to 4am were "not considered appropriate within a predominantly residential environment.

Local Liberal Democrat councillor Judith Lubbock has been strongly opposed to the plans from the start.

She welcomed the news, saying: "That is really good news.

"They would have set a precedent for the other takeaways in Colman Road, and there are several.

"People live all around that takeaway and it would have been extremely disruptive for them.

"11 o'clock is late enough."

This is a victory for those living in the local area - many who formally objected to the plans.

"Our children are exposed to enough junk food on Colman Road already. I do not want them growing up in a community where they can order pizza at 4am."

However, plans are still in the pipeline for the nearby Papa John's to open until 4am, with Norwich City Council still considering the outcome.

They are due to make their decision on the plans imminently.
