A kebab chain with stores in the USA, Canada and Saudia Arabia has set its sights on an empty city centre shop.

German Doner Kebab has applied to open a branch in the former Argos in St Stephens Street.

The brand has several other stores around the UK, but this will be the first to open in Norwich.

The agent acting on behalf of the chai restaurant, Haris Kasuji at R R Planning, said: "The proposed scheme will result in investment and job creation of approximately 30-40 new jobs in the town centre at a time when the high street is suffering."

Officials at Norwich City Council will aim to decide on the plans by Christmas.
