A theatre group is set to produce its first musical.

The Pavilion Players will stage The Producers at the Gorleston Pavilion Theatre, which will be the first in-house musical since the Gorleston Pavilion Trust took over the theatre.

The Producers opens on Thursday, October 17, and performs until Saturday, October 19.

Director Thom Bailey said: “Prior to The Producers, musical comedy had been missing from the Broadway stage for some time and I believe this outrageous and wondrously silly show created a revival for the genre and in turn opened the door for hits like: ‘Spamalot’, ‘The Book of Mormon’, ‘Avenue Q’ and ‘Something Rotten’ amongst others.

“The fact that I have been given the opportunity to direct this glorious show and at a theatre I was raised in is a giddy and surreal treat and a dream come true; it would have blown the mind of sixteen-year-old Thom listening to the soundtrack for the first time in his family car all those years ago to know that someone would one day entrust me to stage this joyous, heartwarming and utterly hilarious show.“

The show has been produced by the group, with chief executive of the trust Alex Youngs saying: “We took on this show knowing that it is a huge show to produce and I’m extremely proud of the team for putting together such a fantastic production.

"It really does showcase the talent that we have locally and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
