A major road in Norwich will face overnight closures and temporary traffic lights while a new bus lane is created.

The new stretch of bus lane is being built at the A140 Ipswich Road's approach to the junction with Hall Road and will take approximately three weeks to complete.

The work will involve hydro-blasting and re-lining the carriageway, traffic signal upgrade and traffic management and will cost an estimated £214,000.

The Department for Transport awarded £49.6 million to Norfolk County Council from the Bus Service Improvement Plan to deliver a range of schemes across Norfolk.

Three-way temporary lights will be installed at the junction for the duration of the work and overnight closures are planned between 7pm to 6am from October 21 to October 30.

The closure will be in place in both directions just north of the junction with Hall Road for approximately 300 metres.

Alternative access to the A140 Ipswich Road is available via A146 Daniels Road and A11 Newmarket Road if required.

Access to homes in Marston Lane will be maintained throughout the works and access to the Holiday Inn will be routed through Hall Road.

Access for pedestrians and cyclists will also be maintained with cyclists encouraged to dismount and walk along the temporary walkway provided.
