Holt is named among Britain's 'most perfect market towns'

The Georgian town of Holt was named in the list published today in The Telegraph and was noted for its charming landmark establishments Bakers & Larners and Byfords. 

With around 1,275 in England alone, travel expert Sarah Baxter describes market towns as "quintessentially British locales, hovering between rural and urban". 

The Bakers & Larners deli has recently been refurbished (Image: Bakers & Larners) She notes that any self-respecting market town should have a landmark retail outlet which has been serving the community for generations and cites Holt as the perfect example.

Bakers & Larners' has been serving the community since 1770, and the ninth generation of the Baker family is still involved in the business.

Specialising in fashion, food and homeware, the shop is a firm favourite with the royal family during their stays in Sandringham.

Housed in what is believed to be Holt's oldest building - a 15th century former ironmonger's - Byfords is recommended in the article as a top place to stay in the town.
