It is already known for giving our four-legged friends a warm welcome.

But now the owners of a dog-friendly coastal pub hope to go one step further and open a grooming business at the site.

Plans have been lodged by the Mariners Compass in Gorleston to turn a disused dining area at the pub into a parlour for dogs.

The idea has been given the green light to go ahead by officers, with a final decision due imminently.

The Mariners Compass on the corner of Middleton Road and Suffield Road, known for its mock Tudor appearance, has been open since the 1930s.

Just one dog at a time will be able to visit the parlour for a grooming session if approved, and it will be run on an appointment-only basis.

There have been no objections received aside from calls to revise the parking layout in order to accommodate customer car parking.

Officers are confident the dog grooming business will not affect the pub.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council's development committee members will vote on the scheme next week.
