Two teens were captured in mobile phone footage repeatedly stabbing a man in broad daylight in front of his fiancée and distressed children, a court has heard.

Elvis Price, 18, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, have gone on trial accused of attempting to murder Danny Norman as he was out walking with his fiancée and two young daughters in Bury Road, Thetford.

The attack took place on March 10 this year, which was Mother's Day.

Norwich Crown CourtNorwich Crown Court (Image: Peter Walsh, Newsquest) Opening the prosecution case on Tuesday (October 8), Matthew Sorel-Cameron said the attack involved Mr Norman "being repeatedly and forcefully stabbed in the upper body".

He said Mr Norman "received in excess of ten stab wounds" in the attack which resulted in "catastrophic blood loss" and the victim was "extremely lucky to survive".

The jury of six men and six women heard Mr Norman and his family left their home in Amulet Close, where Price also lived, to go into Thetford at 9.30am.

They had been returning home when Price left his home with his sister at 11.35am.

Mr Sorel-Cameron said "their paths were about to cross" before the victim's partner, Sophie Wheeler, heard "shouting up ahead" and started to film on her mobile phone.

Mr Sorel-Cameron said Price was "signalling" what was about to come for Mr Norman, who had been making derogatory comments about the defendant's teeth.

Price's sister made a phone call after which the co-defendant arrived on the scene as a passenger in a car, with Mr Sorel-Cameron suggesting he had been "summoned".

Price went to the car and "picked up a knife from the footwell, behind the driver's seat in the vehicle".

Mr Sorel-Cameron said the 17-year-old had a "small item on him capable of inflicting wounds" and used it on Mr Norman in the attack.

He was "striking" Mr Norman to the top of the back with the weapon while grappling with him.

Jurors were told that Price, who had on him a flick knife, was "thrusting a knife into Mr Norman's upper flank and chest area" while he was being held by the other teen.

Mr Sorel-Cameron said at one point the force of the blows caused the blade to bend back, meaning Price had to "re-set it" before continuing the attack.

Paramedics arrived and treated the victim who suffered a cardiac arrest and required "life-saving treatment" on the way to hospital.

He suffered a total of 12 stab wounds, two of which were "of the gravest concern to doctors".

Mr Sorel-Cameron said it had been a "determined and concerted" attack by the two defendants who had intended to kill Mr Norman.

NO LOVE LOST

Jurors had been told there was "no love lost" between the two defendants and Mr Norman with there being "tension" between them.

Mr Sorel-Cameron referred to an earlier incident, just before Christmas 2023, when Price - who had been going to a school in Thetford to pick up a younger brother - and the co-defendant bumped into Mr Norman who had been going to collect one of his children.

The prosecutor said Price and the co-defendant made some "telling threats", saying to Mr Norman that "he would kill him and his child".

There was also mention of "knives and about stabbing" by Price.

Price has denied attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and having an article with a blade or point.

The 17-year-old co-defendant has denied attempted murder and causing GBH with intent.

The trial continues.

* The original jury sworn in on Monday (October 7) had to be discharged before the case was opened on Tuesday (October 8) in front of a fresh jury due to issues with some jurors who "simply couldn't carry on" in the case.
