Leading meteorologist Chris Bell will discuss the science of climate change and its impact on agriculture during a farmers' evening in Halesworth.
Mr Bell, who is chief communications officer and senior meteorologist at Weatherquest and a lecturer in meteorology at the University of East Anglia, will speak at an event on November 6, hosted by accountancy firm Lovewell Blake and the National Farmers' Union.
He will explain the science behind global warming, including the role of greenhouse gas emissions, and talk about the impacts - both globally and more locally for the UK and East Anglia.
Originally from Texas, Mr Bell has a lifelong passion for meteorology and climate, having gained an undergraduate degree in applied climatology from Louisiana State University. He went on to complete a Master’s degree in operational meteorology from Mississippi State University before moving to the UK in 2004.
Lovewell Blake agricultural partner Ryan Lincoln, who will be chairing the event, said, “Climate change is arguably the single greatest challenge facing farming and food production, not just in the UK, but right across the globe.
“It is vital that everyone connected with agriculture understands the origins and scope of the issue, and the part that each of us can play in mitigating its effects and safeguarding the future of our food supply.”
The event takes place at Halesworth Golf club on November 6 at 7.15pm. Attendance is free, but places need to be booked via www.lovewell-blake.co.uk/events.
