A Norfolk council is seeking to build a new car park in order to reduce blockages outside the town centre.

Loddon Town Council hopes to purchase a patch of land next to the Loddon and Chedgrave playing field in order to provide an overflow parking area for the Jubilee Hall.

There have been blockages in George Lane over recent months as those using these facilities leave their cars on the side of the road for hours on end.

The council believes a new car park would solve passing issues in the area and allow traffic to flow smoothly into the town.

This is another step forward by Loddon Town Council to attempt to solve traffic woes in the area.

It follows a decision to run a traffic survey to help determine whether a one-way system would improve issues in the high street, which is also often constricted by parked cars.

Traffic in the high street has increased in recent years as the population grows and locals say they have witnessed cars driving on paths as they struggle to pass on the busy road.

The town, currently home to around 2,000 people, has recently been earmarked for 180 new homes off Beccles Road, next to another approved 180-property development.

The authority has approached Saffron Housing Trust to discuss the possibility of purchasing the land next the the playing field, which is used by local sports teams.

Negotiations with the trust are ongoing and the council will discuss the progress of the agreement at a meeting tomorrow, October 9.
