'Closing down' signs have appeared in the window of a shop in the city centre.

Shoppers have noticed several eye-catching posters outside the Mountain Warehouse store in London Street.

They read: "Closing down, everything must go!"

The future of the branch has been speculated since the retailer opened a second store in the former Topshop premises in Haymarket in October 2023.

At the time of its launch, a spokesman for the firm said the London Street shop would remain open despite the second location being much larger and sitting just a street away.

Its closure has not yet been confirmed but Mountain Warehouse has been contacted for comment.

Mark Neale started Mountain Warehouse in Swindon in 1997.

There are now more than 340 stores worldwide, selling an array of clothing and equipment for outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, camping and running.
