Hethersett Academy has been named the winner of the Secondary School of the Year award at the EDP Norfolk Education Awards 2024.

Rated outstanding by OFSTED, Hethersett Academy in Norwich is a school that embraces and supports everyone who walks through the gates and helps students fulfil their potential.

The academy is committed to offering students an ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum that ensures high achievement for all, nurturing curiosity and critical thinking.

The judges were impressed by Hethersett’s mental health provision and support, which not only encompasses SEND pupils but also those who are neurotypical but experiencing challenges and difficulties.

They added: “They have shown the academic achievement of their pupils and how they are preparing them for the future.”

Commenting on the award, Jane Diver, principal of Hethersett Academy, said: “It’s great to have won it. The recognition is for the team, and it’s a by-product of what we do.”

Finalist: Jane Austen College

Jane Austen College based in Colegate, Norwich, has previously been named Secondary School of the Year by Classics For All.

Since introducing classical civilisation in 2019, students have thrived, with the subject being a highlight of their education.

Finalist: Wymondham High Academy

Wymondham High Academy provides students with a well-rounded education and opportunities to flourish both inside and outside the classroom.

This is highlighted by its sports programmes, with numerous trophies in football and rugby, as well as trips and diverse extracurricular activities that enrich their experience.
